In Zayn's book, an important aspect of his life after One Direction is when he was home. It is when he is back home in Bradford England just after we quit the band. This is important because he deals with the aftermath of how he felt in One Direction and let everything he did the past five years. He writes, "It was only after leaving that I finally had time to properly process everything that had happened to me since that first X Factor audition back in 2010" (40). He had a quiet time to relax and think about his life. This was the time where Zayn wanted to write his own music and his thoughts became actions, becuase he started writing lyrics and with that, he started recording with many people and he came out with his own music. It is amazing just how fast the night changes because just a little over year ago, Zayn was touring with One Direction on their On the Road Again Tour and now he is just a solo artist with his own album.

Before reading Zayn Malik's book, I resented him. In my point of view, I thought he was just selfish and only thought about himself. I mean, he left his brothers of five years and the fans who were there in the beginning, knowing that they loved him alot. And he insulted the boys and lost contact with them. It is kind of hard to do that when you have been with them for a long time. So I feel like everyone, including me, did not understand him. After reading his book, he put things into perspective for me. He was not doing so good in One Direction, so he felt it necessary for him to leave. I read that he did not want to do it because of the fans, but he was looking out for himself. And he explains that in his book. That sometimes it is in one's best interest to do something for them. This connects to the icon multiple perspectives.
Zayn Malik used to be a member of the band One Direction until recently, he quit the band. It was March 25, 2015 when he quit the band. It is now December 2016 and he wrote his own book explaining why he did that and what he was doing while he was not in the band with them. When he talked about leaving the band, he said he felt more free and he didn't feel so pressured. "When I got home, I told everybody the same thing: that leaving the band, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders." He said that the last few months of being in One Direction, he felt like he had been faking it and that he did not like that feeling at all. That's when he stated feeling ill, he talked about how he wouldn't eat for about three days in a row, and being there made him feel sick. When he went back home to his hometown, Bradford, England, he said that he had finally had time to think and let everything in his life sink in. Since he went to audition for the X Factor in 2010. Then he starts talking about his life growing up and what he felt. Like his illness. He explains, "I was later diagnosed by doctors as having super-hyperactivity - or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), as they like to label it." He talks a lot about boxing and how that helped him out growing and the passion he had for it. He also started talking about how he wanted a new place to see and to feel welcome. That's when he moved to LA and started visiting studios and started getting into writing music again. Which is where we are now, he came out with an album and he is in a better place than he was when he was still in One Direction.
Book Author: Zayn Malik Although Auggie had his friends, he also had people who weren't so kind to him as his friends. Julian was also one of the students chosen to give him a tour of the school. He was okay at first but then he started calling him the Freak or Zombie Kid because he didn't look like other students. August just ignores it because he knew this would happen no matter what because of how he looked like. This conflict is external because it is August vs. Julian. There is this one point where he says "We could have been partners. You don't have to be friends with that freak if you don't want to be, you know. . . ." This is him talking to one of his classmates about Auggie. He did nothing wrong but still doesn't like him because of the way he looks.
August (Auggie) Pullman is a 5th grader who has a "deformity". He was born with his eyes all scrunched up, mouth lower than it should be, ears smaller than normal, but other than that he is a normal boy. He was home-schooled until his parents decided it was time for him to go to school. He didn't want to go at first because he knew he was going to get made fun of, or worse, get called nasty names. He is very timid at first but then you get to know him and he is very smart and easy-going. One of his friends said, "Second of all, he's actually a really cool dude. I mean, he's pretty funny. Like, the teacher will say something and August will whisper something funny to me that no one else hears and totally make me crack up. He's also just, overall, a nice kid. Like, he's easy to hang out with and talk to and stuff." This shows that he is very easy to get along with and is a good person. This person is Jack Will, he was asked to give him a tour before school started so he can know at least a few faces in the school. They were put in all of the same classes and they become close really fast. There is also Summer who decided to be his friend too since she felt bad and hit it off as well. Those two were the only people who supported Auggie in the beginning to the school year. Auggie knows that he is different but has gotten used to it and does everything normal like any other person would do but he can't change the way he looks I feel that makes him more mature than the rest of the kids. He explains, "I know I'm not an ordinary ten-year-old kid. I mean, sure, I do ordinary things. I eat ice cream. I ride my bike. I play ball. I have an XBox. Stuff like that makes me ordinary. I guess. And I feel ordinary. Inside. But I know ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. I know ordinary kids don't get stared at wherever they go." This is what makes him a strong character.
Torrey is confused. She didn't know whether to pick Blair and her group to be with so that she can be popular like at her last school, or to pick her cousin and Luis who actually care about her and what she thinks. She ends up picking Blair but it was a mistake. She didn't feel comfortable there. So now she has to deal with it because she would rather be there than the "unpopular" group with her cousin. Her group tells her that they don't like Luis and that he is the freak of the school, they tell her to ignore him or insult him. Except she actually likes Luis and doesn't think of him as a freak. "My brush-off of Luis must have been the right thing do to. At lunch, as I'm standing in the cafeteria, looking for where Blair materializes by my side." (96) This actually shows that what she did was only to please her group. "'Wait,' Blair says, her voice muffled by the door. 'Come on.' I can hear MIa's voice outside. 'Leave her.' 'WE can't do that,' Blair says, but then she laughs. 'Okay. Go. Go.' In the far-off distance, I hear laughter and the sound of a car honking , then silence. They left me." (242) This is why she made a mistake. She chose the wrong group and they ended up leaving her in a funeral home. She should have stayed with Luis because then she woukdn't have fekt so scared in that moment.
Torrey Grey is a Youtuber with thousands of subscribers, she had a perfect world where all her followers loved her and so did her friends and her boyfriend. She didn't have to worry about anything, then suddenly her sister was killed in a car accident, then she starts to fall apart. Then she moves states and moves in across the street from her cousin Raylene who is unpopular, cheery and always lifts peoples spirits up but she likes Torrey. She also meets Blair who is the queen bee at the school and doesn't spare anyone's feelings only likes her because she is famous online. Then there is Luis who's a little mysterious and he is known as the weird freak at school, but deep down he's caring and nice. Torrey doesn't know how to cope with her sisters death but she makes the mistake of choosing the wrong crowd and she begins changing and starts to have feelings for Luis but she doesn't want to because she wanted to be like her old school. She realizes that Raylene and Luis are real friends and they are interested in her and not just her fame like Blair. She learns that she doesn't need fame to make her feel good about herself but good friends who care about her.
