I, too, sing American
I am the younger daughter They tell me to play with my dolls When they have fun But I smile And make my own dolls to play with And grow more mature Tomorrow, I'll have my fun When they have fun Nobody'll dare Say to me "Play with your dolls" Then. Besides, They'll see how mature I am And be glad- I, too, am America

To be an American means that you were born to have rights. Americans know that they have freedom, so they say what they want to say. Maybe that is why the history of Americans are so judgmental because they can say things to people because they have the right of speech. An American can also be proud, knowing what their country did, they love to feel proud. Also, to be an American means that you love this country and fight for it, when a day comes and something poses a threat to our country. When I think of being an American, I think of having my own voice and helping decide the fate of this country and who will help keep it existing. The American life would be the home of opportunites. That is you are in America, and you have nothing, you can try realy hard to achieve the dream of having money and not find anything missing from your wonderful life. For example Los Angles, people from all over the world move to LA for an opportunity at singing, dancing, acting and much more. The American life is supposed to give you a better life, this espeacially goes for people who've always had it hard. From what I've heard, the saying
The glitter, the blue, and the black represent the different forms of power and the objects inside of the snake that he ate. He ate them because those are the different powers that the snake has. This leads back to the theme which is that power can take many forms. The finger represents the power of a kind that the snake has, the ship represents the places the snake can take you and the skull represents death and how it relates to the ship because it can take you anywhere and death has no limit ti where it takes you.
The left side, which is the mind, would be what all minds do, which is think or perceive, the action of analyzing something. The right side shows the object that the mind sees. This would be the perception, the something the mind analyzed. Descartes' philosophical view of this would be that the act of perceiving would be an irrefutable truth, something that is 100% true, because analyzing would require using your mind to think, and everybody thinks. The perception would be a doubt because that is the result of analyzing and the result can vary, due to tradition and culture. So it wouldn't be the same for everyone. The result wouldn't be 100% true.
This painting reperesentions the patterns in life. The grey background represents just general life. The shapes, or the circles represent the different patterns in life. The colors within the circles are the different aspects in between those circles. Notice the colors are trying to blend in with each other. This represents the different kinds of people in life around each other.
When I first wrote about Descartes' "I think, therefore I am", I thought it had something do do with knowledge and knowing something, then it would be true. But It turns out I was worng. His philosophy has to do with a lot of thinking. All of his philosophies were based on thinking and doubting everything until proven right. Which he doubts his existance and when he THOUGHT about it, he realized that with thinking, we know we do exist. This goes on about how knowing what is an irrefutable truth when you see things the way he does and what is a doubt that has to be analyzed to be true. In summary, his philosophy is basically doubt everything, until you can prove it true.
Before we had this lesson about mind-set, we didn’t know what Mind-set was about, but after learning about it, we realized that this pattern, where people either shut down when they fail or fail and then try again happens a lot. It originates in a person’s brain. We read some articles that explained how mind-set happens and how people work when they have fixed or growth mind-sets. Carol Dweck is a psychology professor and she had a theory of the fixed and growth mindsets. Dweck stated, “People who attributed their failures to lack of ability would become discouraged even in areas where they were capable”(pg.2). School is a perfect example of her statement, because students face problems that the teacher gives, but they just don’t try. “A fixed mind-set fosters a categorical, all- or- nothing view of people’s qualities; this view tends to make you ignore festering problems or, at the other extreme, give up on a relationship at the first sign of trouble.” (pg.5), believes Dweck. Carol Dweck also wrote that most people have fixed mind-sets. The patterns continue on by not trying harder when they face a problem that is too hard for them.
A fixed or growth mind-set can start when whenever in someone’s life, but we like to think it starts in the brain or the origin where you can develope a fixed or growth mind-set, “Can hearing such stories help a 4‐year‐old handle a sandbox setback?” (pg. 6). Maybe, but they can evolve over time depending on how they face the problems. We can grow up with a growth mindset and when we think we learned enough we start to process a fixed mindset. But some people still think they have the potential of learning more. Most people don’t realize that they have a certain mindset, whether it’s to continue to try after so many fails, or after they fail once, they give up. Even older people in their 50s can have the potential of having a growth mind-set, “who took up piano as an adult and learned to speak Italian in her 50s” (pg.6). Mind-set can be a reason why you can't accomplish something or the reason that you thrive. We have two different mind-sets, a fixed or growth mind-set. These types of mid-sets have different developments. The patterns happen in everyday life situations. An example of this is like a plant. It has same scenarios but different emotions. It depends on the type of person that takes care of the plant. Sometimes a plant keeps growing if it get the correct amount of care, but sometimes the person just gives up and lets it die. The two different mind-sets think some ways the same, but mostly different. They have the patterns of the same reasoning but different way of thinking. Descartes quote can have a different meaning depending on the person. To me, the line says it all. Since he was a French philosopher, mathematician, and scientist, I think it has to do with intelligence and education. He says, "I think, therefore, I am" he is saying that he thinks and which automatically makes him smart. I don't think there is any deeper meaning than that . He simply said what he thought was true, though I don't think its's true. Thinking is not just for learning or teaching, it's for making the right decisions in life. For example, a student can have an average grade, but when it comes to choosing who they hang out with or if they look both ways when they cross the street, they do much better than that. In the end, all I'm saying is that his quote is very clear, but it might not be completely true. |
